While trying to stop smoking, how many days does it take to get past panic mode?
doobydoo asked:
husband is trying to stop smoking and he’s going on 48 hrs, is panicky but is still motivated and wants to kick that habit.

I don’t smoke, but most addiction studies say that three days is the first major hump, followed by a week, then the third week. After that, unless you start up again, you’re usually fine. The panic may last more or less time than that. It’s purely individual, and the numbers I cited are averages.

Well, if he is going non-nicotine the nicotine will leave your body in 72 hours, so three days and the phsical aspect is over and it is all psychological at that point.
Mentally it is rough, and I know you’ll hate this answer, but it varies by person how bad you continue to crave psychologically after the physical addiction is over.
The best you can do is be supportive for him and understanding. I just quit 6 months ago and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Just encourage him to stick with it. In a month it will be so much easier, in two months he’ll wonder why he ever smoked in the first place.
